Kingman Turquoise
Kingman Turquoise comes from a mine near Kingman, Arizona. It has a long history and became especially popular in American turquoise jewelry during the mid-1900s. The mine is still known for producing a wide variety of colors and matrix patterns.
So Many Different Looks
One of the most interesting things about Kingman Turquoise is how different each stone can look. Its color ranges from bright sky blue and deep blue to blue-green and green.
Some stones have very little matrix, while others have brown, black, or golden markings. Kingman can also contain touches of pyrite, quartz, and fine spiderweb matrix.
Turquoise Mountain and Ithaca Peak also come from the Kingman mining area. Turquoise Mountain is often blue to green with brown or golden matrix, while Ithaca Peak is known for rich blue color with pyrite, quartz, or dark spiderweb.
Why I’m Drawn to Kingman Turquoise
I love Kingman Turquoise because it comes in so many different colors and patterns. You can look at several Kingman stones together and each one can have a completely different feel.
My favorite is the spiderweb matrix. The fine, dark lines against the blue are very distinctive and give the stone a natural design before I ever begin working with it.
That variety gives me more freedom when I’m designing. I can choose a clean blue stone for something simple or let a bold spiderweb pattern become the focus of the entire piece.
